Current Issue
Dear Readers,
Welcome to the inaugural issue of "Societies and Sustainability". We are delighted to present a journal that is dedicated to exploring the critical intersection of social sciences and sustainable development. At a time when our world is facing unprecedented challenges, the insights provided by social sciences are more essential than ever in creating solutions that are equitable, inclusive, and sustainable.
Our societies are undergoing significant transformations due to economic changes, technological advancements, and environmental pressures. "Societies and Sustainability" aims to be a platform for interdisciplinary research and dialogue, bringing together diverse perspectives to address the complexities of sustainable development. The articles in this journal reflect our commitment to advancing scientific understanding and promoting innovative approaches to some of the most pressing social issues of our time.
The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) provide a comprehensive framework for addressing global challenges and building a sustainable future. Social sciences play a crucial role in achieving these goals, particularly those focused on reducing inequalities (SDG 10), promoting decent work and economic growth (SDG 8), ensuring quality education (SDG 4), and fostering peaceful and inclusive societies (SDG 16). Through rigorous research and thoughtful analysis, this journal aims to contribute to these global objectives and drive meaningful progress.
In this first issue, we are excited to feature a diverse range of articles that highlight the impact of social sciences on sustainability.
We begin with "Applying of Random Forest and Support Vector Machine in Predicting Prices of Uranium Companies" by MSc Lukasz Sroka from the University of Economics in Katowice, Poland. This article explores the use of advanced machine learning algorithms to forecast uranium company prices, particularly in light of recent geopolitical changes. The study demonstrates how these innovative models can enhance financial forecasting accuracy, providing valuable insights for investors and aligning with SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth).
Next, we explore the transformative role of technology in recruitment with "The Use of Artificial Intelligence in Recruitment and Selection Processes. Evidence from Corporate Recruiters" by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Victor-Alexandru Briciu, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Arabela Briciu, and Andreea-Cristina Catargiu from Transilvania University of Brasov, Romania. This research investigates how AI can optimize recruitment processes, offering perspectives from corporate recruiters in Romania. The study highlights the potential benefits and challenges of AI in human resources, contributing to SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure).
Our journey continues with "Strengthening Cooperation for Customs Risks Management at European Borders in the New Regional Security Context" by Prof. Dr. Florin Tudor and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Simona Petrina Gavrilă from ”Dunarea de Jos” University of Galati, Romania. This article addresses the complexities of customs risk management in the Black Sea region, emphasizing the need for enhanced cooperation among European border authorities. The research supports SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) by promoting secure and efficient border management practices.
Finally, we present "Child Pornography in Slovakia and Project Bridge" by Assist. Prof. Dr. Michal Chovanec and Prof. Dr. Jozef Meteňko from the Academy of Police Forces in Bratislava, Slovakia. This paper provides a comprehensive analysis of child pornography in Slovakia, highlighting efforts through the European scientific project Bridge. The study calls for stronger legal frameworks and international cooperation to combat this issue, aligning with SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions).
As you explore the articles in this inaugural issue, we hope you are inspired by the depth of research and the innovative solutions presented. "Societies and Sustainability" is dedicated to fostering a global community of scholars, researchers, and practitioners committed to addressing critical social issues. We invite you to join us on this journey of discovery and collaboration.
